09 Jul 2009 Nevada Passes Domestic Partnership Law
The State of Nevada has passed a Domestic Partnership law, effective October 1, 2009, which intends to provide the same rights, responsibilities, obligations, protections, benefits and duties, with the exception of mandated employer health care benefits, as do parties to any other civil contract created pursuant to title 11 of NRS, whether derived from statutes, administrative regulations, court rules, government policies, common law or any other provisions or sources of law. The bill, as enrolled, specifically provides that a “domestic partnership is not a marriage for the purposes of Section 21 of Article 1 of the Nevada Constitution.
